Jullay Jullay!!! the miracle word for everything... hello, bye-bye...
May and June is a nice time to be in Ladakh; not so hot and not too many tourists.
Avoid July and August if you like it quite.
I stayed in Upper Changspa at the Solpon Guest House. A very friendly family, nice rooms and a delicious dinner. It is just under the Shanti Stupa, about 10 minutes walk from Leh city.
Take some time to go to Sabu village; it is only 8 kilometers from Leh and not in the Lonely Planet guide book. It is a small village, very green, with a little Gompa (monastery) and a great view in the Indus Valley and Stok Kangri (6123m).
Don't miss the downhill ride with mountain bike from Khardungla (5260m) to Leh (3500m). It cost about 700Rps to be taken by car to the top and then you can drive down with bike and helmet included. A week before, I saw 4 foreigners coming back from the pass; they even had a trip to the hospital included. Warning, don't drive stupid.
Don't forget to try local product like seabuck-thorn juice or dried apricots.
The full moon pictures are from June 18th 2008, in the night of Buddha Poornima, celebrating the birth, enlightment and maha samadhi of Gautama Buddha.
Ladakh = hospitality.
