When learning a programming language, it's easier to start with command-line programs before moving on to GUI programs. This video shows you how to create and run command-line programs with C, C++, or Objective C with Xcode 3.2

  • TheSpanishPunk,

If you're writing a Cocoa application in Ruby, install MacRuby or RubyCocoa. They come with Xcode project templates.

If you're writing a command-line Ruby program, I recommend using TextWrangler instead of Xcode. If you want to use Xcode, create an external build system project and edit the target to use the Ruby interpreter instead of make. Double-click the name of the target in the Groups and Files list to edit the target.

  • Where is the actual executable stored?

  • This is excellent. It helped me find out how to type C++ code into XCode 3.2.6.

  • how do you create a ruby project?

  • Thank you!!!!

    good job

  • promiss i'll recomend this video, good job

  • awesome video! i've been searching for how to view the results of a program (i.e. i didnt know about the console) for over a week now.

have to admit though, i thought there was a problem with my macbook when i didnt hear any sound from your video but had on my itunes and other programs :P

(it turns out there's an actual problem like that where you have sound on other programs but not on the internet..)

    Thanks again

  • Thank you for a straightforward video that didn't annoy me with a poorly rehearsed (or unrehearsed) audio track. All I wanted (and got) was a video that helped me start learning to program in C.
