Jack decided not to tell. However, the truth came out and Hal was very disappointed and outraged by this. Hal had to suspend Jack without pay. Jack was lucky, that he didn't get dismissed from the force.

Hal took Jack back, but Jack's old position had already been given to Nick Kasnoff, Mike's cousin. The best Hal could do was give Jack a part-time job to help out with cases when the force was short-handed. Because of Carly, she and Jack had to struggle for a while to make end's meet.

I agree. Just because her husband is a cop and that they have children together, she thinks she gets a "Get/stay out of jail free" card.

This is part of the reason why Jack divorced her. He got tired of always having to clean up her messes.
