SMU Vertebrate Paleontologist Louis Jacobs talked about evolution, the fossil record and paleontology at SMU as part of a faculty symposium held September 12, 2009, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the publication of Charles Darwin's "On the Origin of Species."
I used this educator's method for determining near relatives by "predicting the characters that a hypothetical common ancestor would have"
First, I considered human cognitive ability... specifically the thought process of "analogical reasoning". Then I considered the human physiological form which enables speaking
I came up with humanity's nearest relatives being Crows... Aves!
They can speak & correctly execute "analogical reasoning". Neither of which can be said of any of the Great Apes
