The 67 cougar like the mustang came withe 289. The 302 became available in late 68. The 65-68 289 2bbl was rated at 200hp at the flywheel (gross) and 220hp with the 4 barrel except for 68, no 4bbl. The 302 2bbl was rated @210hp. remember these are gross figures. In 1972 all American auto makers started measuring hp "SAE net" or at the rear wheels. 289 and 302 mustang and Cougars were not fast but rather spunky, spirited and fun to drive. The 67 427 Cougar and the 68 428 Stangs were super quick.
