Game Summary: Manayunk Sport and Social Fall League Playoff Opener. #1 PLAYAS vs #8 Michigan Flint. Upset.

Not your typical #1 vs #8 matchup. Before walking in, I could hear all the shoes screeching, sounding like some intense defense. When I walked through the door, I saw exactly what I heard. An classic intense defensive man-to-man battle. Different from most Manayunk league teams who cling on to the 2-3 zone defense. Game's tied up at halftime at 31. The 8th seeded Michigan Flint gained huge confidence after nailing a 3 at the buzzer to tie the game.

The 2nd half was filled with intense hustle and passionate D. There was only 6 points scored in the first 5 minutes of the half! 6pts in 5min - that tells you. The veteran team, PLAYAS, who was looking to avenge a semi-final loss in Manayunk's summer session, played focused and intense.
A back and forth battle, where the man-to-man defense picked up from 3/4 court, buckets did come by easy. But a few players had a easier time scoring. One player for Michigan Flint scored 80% of the 2nd half points (shown in video).
With both teams nearing 7 fouls closer to the end of regulation, PLAYAS, who were down, did not go out without a fight. They tied the game to force overtime. And in OT, with both teams in the penalty and still playing hard, it came down to free throws. PLAYAS had a few good shooters but all their overtime shots fell short - and with only 3minute OT's every possession counts. The 8th seed had surprisingly good and abundant one-on-one skilled players. And played with good, trusting, selfless team chemistry. Sending the PLAYAS to a 2nd consecutive disappointing finish in the Manayunk Basketball Fall Playoff Madness.
