I have been listening to Irish rock for as long as I can remember. The likes of Shane MacGowan and of course the Chieftains have shaped my life, as has Ry Cooder; even more so because Ry Cooder is my name sake. I'm not sure how I missed this album, but as a history nut, and spanish speaker, with my love for both musicians music, I am so excited to give this album a listen.

Go Ireland. Viva México.

I've been playing celtic music in México for 28 years already. Soon after me and my band started exploring and playing it, we realized the similarity and common ground and heart shared by celtic and mexican traditional music, and many folk musics around the world, not to speak about some obvious historical connections. We recorded some interesting mixtures of mexican and irish (and galician) folk tunes since 1992. Visit myspace.com/manuelugarte. Great job, Ry, Chieftains and guests!

The "mixture" of Mex & Irish is due to Ry Cooder and the Chieftains! There's no real connection outside of the production being spearheaded by Cooder and Paddy. You should get the CD for the interesting similarity among the musical pieces. Both are REVOLUCIONARIES!! These are legendary dudes, but hey Ry don't lard up too mucho dude!

I'm 55 years old., Irish
Lived in So Cal. all my life.
My Dad took us to Mexico for Vacation every year.
I thought everybody knew how to live together.
God Bless My Dad, and Ryland P Cooder And the Chieftans, y Mexico, por vida!!!!!
An Irish-Mexican connection..? Just have read it in my magazine..and now on youtube !! I'm very interested in this San Patricio story....My grandfather was a M exican sailor who came to Antwerp/Belgium. So European and Mexican history is important to me. I allways had great sympaty for the Irish cause. And now finally Mexican and Irish music come together..great !
