Rosie Barnes questions Margaret Thatcher at Prime Ministers Questions over a change of the voting system. Margaret Thatcher replies with firm support First Past the Post!!

On May 5th 2011, a referendum is being held on whether we should change the voting system to Alternative Vote. This will be a major decision for our country and could result in even more disproportionate results than the current system. Defend fair, clear and honest elections and vote NO to AV on May 5th !!

  • Under the current system, because of my postcode (L7), I don't have a vote. I have approx. 1/14 of a vote. This is because I live in a 'safe seat'. FPTP denies many, many voters the power of a vote, whilst allowing others more than their share of power to choose. Whilst AV is not ideal, it will help to even out the influence of votes in this country. If you think that everyone in this country deserves a vote, regardless of where they live, then vote YES to AV on May 5th.

  • Notice how the vote no campaign focuses on ignorance, misinformation and spreading false fear, where as the vote yes campaign seem more intent on actually explaining the system and what it means.

  • @MonsterMunchAreAce Wow, good point! There HAS to be something going on here... the likes/dislikes on YouTube videos don't match up to the end results of a referendum! How... how totally plausible!

Either that or it could be the fact that a lot of people here on YouTube simply don't like Maggie... no, no, that can't be! Referendum rigging alert!

  • @way2tehdawn Because many people are actually thick enough to think that the UK is a dictatorship where your vote counts for nothing. Many people are just sad that the 2010 election didn't turn out the way they wanted, and think that this is going to change something.

  • @400blowsAKN I'll bet you weren't complaining when FPTP returned Labour three times in a row.

  • Young David Blunkett there

  • Thatcher sucks

  • Vote NO to AV! Promote tactical voting, fear, spoiler effects and the marginalisation of anyone who isn't devoted to the two party system!

  • Thatcher is always right and so she was proved.

  • Die of a stroke Margaret Thatcher...

  • i not good AT SPELLING JUST LIKE MANY PEOPIL IN THE UK AND MORE SO BECOSE MY DISBILTY BUT WHEN PEOPIL LIKE YOU CALL PEOPIL FOR IT IT YOU LOT THAT MAKE THE PROBLEM WORSE COSE WHEN SOMEONE DOSE TRY AND DO BETTER YOU LET CVOME OUT WITH RUBISH LIKE THAT

  • @cactustactics Another hilarious attempt from you to pretend you have some semblance of awareness of what is going on. The sheer fact that you said "divine the difference" says it all, really. You don't have a clue. You still can't understand the very basic fact that a few months ago I said that there were some people who voted for AV because they thought it would hurt the Tories. Since then it appears you can't grasp the idea that this was then confirmed by politicians saying exactly that.
