CWF MID-ATLANTIC'S "JOHNNY WEAVER CUP FINALS" THIS SATURDAY, AUGUST 16th, IN BURLINGTON, NC

*** FINAL FOUR BATTLE IT OUT FOR THE 2008 WEAVER CUP

CWF Mid-Atlantic returns to the Carolina Sports Arena in Burlington, NC this Saturday, August 16th, with a 7:30pm belltime. This is a huge event with a full card of action.

The Final Four of this year's Johnny Weaver Cup Tournament will battle it out this Saturday night for the prestigious Weaver Cup Trophy and a guaranteed title bout for the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Championship. This year's Final Four is unusual in that one Final Four slot will not be filled until Saturday night.

Marcellus King was the first to clinch a spot in the Final Four, followed by Ric Converse, setting up their Semi-Final match. The third slot was left open as Tank Lawson and Steve Greene battled to a double countout, eliminating both from the tournament and giving a bye to the Finals for the winner of the Brass Munkey versus Jesse Ortega quarterfinals bout.

Due to a scheduling conflict of the Tag Team Tournament, the Munkey/Ortega matchup was postponed to the Finals Night due to the fact that the winner would get a bye into the main event finals, and in effect creating a traditional "Final Four" where the finalists wrestle twice in the night.

Marcellus King, having already scored a huge win over the reigning Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion, will look to continue his winning streak as he faces former champion Ric Converse. While both participants are hated by the fans, this match will surely be an exciting one. Neither has ever won the Weaver Cup, although Converse has made it to the Finals before. Both King and Converse are looking to secure a championship bout against McBride and claim the heavyweight crown. Winning the Weaver Cup will guarantee the possibility.

Meanwhile, Brass Munkey will be seeking revenge for his controversial pinfall loss to Jesse Ortega from the Tag Team Tournament two weeks ago. Ortega received a helping hand from partner Gemini Kid, but in singles competition this Saturday, won't be able to rely on him to defeat Munkey again. This is Brass Munkey's second "Final Four" appearance, while Jesse Ortega makes his fifth straight Final Four appearance. Ortega is also the only former winner of the Weaver Cup. Munkey and Ortega have both held the TV Title and Tag Team Title, but neither has ever captured the heavyweight championship. The Weaver Cup could provide them with that opportunity.

The winner of both matches will meet in the main event for the trophy and title shot and the bragging rights of being the 2008 Johnny Weaver Cup Champion. The tournament was created to honor the legacy of Johnny Weaver and it has been our honor to have Johnny present the winners trophy each year. Due to Mr. Weaver's passing earlier in the year, the 2008 tournament will mark the first "Weaver Cup Memorial" as we continue to honor this legend of wrestling.

All this and so much more this Saturday night in Burlingon, NC at the Carolina Sports Arena!

Don't you dare miss it!!!

  • Strong opening, this is what is missing in the WWE, remebering to treat it like a sport.
