How long is it before you have to shave your head on average? Like a couple days or a few weeks?

I shave every other day, and skip on the weekend.

You really have a quick technique! It takes me a while (like 20 minutes) to shave my head, but perhaps it's due to thicker hair and being much more careful not to nick myself. I use a Mach 3 razor, and I've noticed that the blades become dull very fast. Do you use a new cartridge every shave, or do you have a method to keep them sharp longer?

I use a total of 4 razors a year to shave my head and face. I ensure that the razor is completely clean and dry when I am done shaving. If you have thicker hair I am sure you will be going through them more frequently.

@ny5280 same guy here, accidentally deleted my account, had to change names. Thanks again. Took the step yesterday and went from about 2 inches of hair to no guard. i think it looks way better but still can't get the guts to shave it all off. Not sure why it seems like such a big step. Maybe soon though.

@Bouncer56 shave in the shower dude, don't go against the grain, go with it. Don't go over an area more than once and don't push/use force, just glide over. I use a generic bodywash very watered down, works well when I shave every other day. Though I notice if I've left it grow for a week, then I tend to get that good ol razor burn.

@akr4085 What got me too shave my head was i was turning 30 it was thinning since i was 25 did not get bad til i was 28! one day i went too BestCuts buzzed it with no guard and went home and shaved it! my girlfriend at the time said i looked better with it shaved! a shaved head is better then a balding head! i say go for it! it will start too grow back in a few days! you will wish you did it way befor!

@ny5280 Thanks for the advice man. I am 25 now and hate that I am losing my hair. It is noticeably thinning. The crown is almost bald and the front of my hairline is about 1/3 of the way back on top of my head. I have taken my hair down to no guard before and liked it, but I just can't seem to get over the nerves of taking it all off. I don't really know why. Any advice on getting over the nerves?

Do you shave till there is no more stubble on your head or just kinda shave it and leave some stubble. I find that when I shave till ALL my stubble is gone I have extreme razor burn. was just curious as I do not know anyone else my age (22) going bald to reference with.

@akr4085 I have been shaveing my head for two years now! when i turned 30 it was time i buzzed it for a year and so and said fuck it! i say buzz it first and see how your head shape is! How thin is your hair? i say use a number 2 at first then a 1! Shaveing my head was the best choice wish i had done it when i was 28!

i am in the same situation as you and just wondering when did you decide it was time to shave your head? I am contemplating it but nervous about shaving it all off. Did you shave it bald right away or did you try a buzz cut first?
