Britain pledges its support to development in Sri Lanka

Britain has pledged that it will extend its full support for trade and economic development in Sri Lanka.

British MP Sir Nicholas Winternet said that the British Government has a duty to persuade the officials in Brussels to seek assistance from the European Union in the investment and trade transactions in Sri Lanka while recognizing the prevailing situation in the country. The Parliamentarian expressed these views at a special meeting held in the British Parliament premises under the patronage of Minister G.L. Peiris who is on a visit to Britain. He further said that the age old cultural and historic relations prevailing between the two countries have to be taken into consideration. Several members of the government expressed their views in support of Sri Lanka. They pledged to extend full support for the new economic and political process in Sri Lanka, which has recently seen the end of terrorism.
