The '62 Garland/Paar interview was the best of all 3 he did w/her. I enjoy Jack Paar & I LOVE Garland period! But Jack isnt too original w/his questions ( i.e. The MGM School stories ) In The last 2 interviews from '64 & '67 Jack seemed to get Judy in hot water by having her talk in a negative tone about Marlene Dietrich, Deanna Durbin and Elizabeth Taylor. Judy was a great conversationalist & intelligent woman & she could have excelled even more if he talked to her about other topics.

Great video. This one is rare...never saw it before, but loved it. I was born 5 days prior to her death....I wish I could have seen her perform live. Even in this video, it is very apparent she is under the influence of some kind of mind altering substance. I think everyone knew she was struggling, but back then, there was no Betty Ford Center. If she had just lived another 15 years, she might have had a chance at recovery. Anyway, rest in peace Judy. We still love ya!

and she is only 47 here.. how sad.

@IToldHimNotToDoIt She was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver in the late 50's from all the drinking, so she was a ticking time bomb. The drugs didn't help, only sped up the process.

aw she seemed like the loveliest lady ever i love judy! (-: <3

@unclealand I swear she diedof drug induced anorexia. her weight issues and ritalin wasted her away and I think thats why the seconal killed her. she was capable of taking a gram or more in past years but a body like she had in 1969 sadly couldnt take the dose she would normally have been able to tolerate. her heart and liver were also damaged by overdoses, the heart was damaged by the od in hong kong, and as ritalin kills the liver and the seconal the heart, judy died, but her soul lives on.

@KayCommaEmily Now she'd be expected to wear a thong but they'd burn her at the stake for being drunk.
-
@Onlymusical I know, right? She's absolutely drunk and drugged on television, yet they joke about her showing her knees. Oh, how times have changed.
-
@KayCommaEmily I didn't expect anybody to think I was serious ("wonder if they knew each other") but it is quite a resemblance. It's refreshing to see somebody so drunk and blasted on drugs conduct an interview with the best talk show host (along with Dick Cavett) with nothing held back at all.
-
@Onlymusical I am SO glad you were joking. You read some pretty stupid comments on Youtube. And yes, this is a wonderful interview :)

Judy Garland was a Champion ! A Master at her Craft/Art...and...she was Real : nothing phoney about her ! I wish we had her just a little bit longer...but her Legacy will last forever !
She looks nice with that hairstyle. That was the style in '67.
This would have been after her VOTD fiasco.

The notion of poor Judy forced into performing are pretty silly. It was her life, lucky for us. She was enormously competitive, and a full 3 decades after they were rivals at MGM, here she is, still annoyed that Deanna Durbin became a huge star at Universal, while she (Judy) was still, for a while, a mere peon at MGM. Seeing this clip, with her outsized behavior, odd hairstyle and dress, it seems she would have been perfect as Auntie Mame on stage & especially screen.
