Judging from his affinity for vocal music, it was just a question of time before the Russian avant garde composer Alexander Raskatov produced his first opera. With his choice of Mikhail Bulgakov's satiric novel 'Heart of a Dog' (1925) he follows in the footsteps of works by fellow Russians Shostakovich ('The Nose') and Schnittke ('Life with an Idiot'). In a score laden with fantasy and emotion, he tells the absurd tale of a professor who implants a human pituitary gland into a stray dog, which proceeds to become more and more human.

  • One of the greatest Opera-Ideas in our Time. Bolhakovs comunismus-drama alegory perfect ilustrated by Alexander Raskatov, with great vocal fantasy, humor, sarcastical rhytmic, a lot of great orchestral colours and deep melancholy, musical dramaturgy on the higest level!. Thanks a lot and gratularions to Composer and all performers ! I wish it will be so famous like Bergs "Wozzeck" !

  • Gisteravond de première gezien, het was werkelijk adembenemend mooi!!!!

  • I strongly impressed by this music. I read the original book of "A Dog's Heart" in my childhood and I remember still now. Here is something special integrating the original story and music. I feel so. Do you have a plan to broadcast this opera? I wish online broadcasting to access from abroad.
