Went to feed the ducks on Water Street and as I went near an evergreen tree this Barred Owl came flying out and perched on a branch across the street. It then flew to a tree overlooking the Saco Police Department before flying back to water street. The last images of the owl show that White-breasted Nuthatches were keeping a close eye on it. The camera's battery died before the Owl flew into another tree across the street on the small island in the river. A large crow took notice of the Owl and took a couple of close fly-bys too.
no freaking way

I've never seen an owl in the wild before. I can hear them in the night but never see them. I'm jealous! They're such pretty birds.

I wonder if the owl was trying to figure out if your lens/eye was a threat? Sure seemed like it was looking directly at you.

I use a Canon ZR90 Mini-DV Camcorder. I need to get a small tripod or mono-pod for long distance shots because the slightest motion gets magnified.

Wow that's cool. I just love owls - hear them all the time but rarely see them! You have a good zoom - did you use a camera or a camcorder?
