My entry into Eric Whitacre's virtual choir (the "Sleep" experiment). Alto 1 sung by Andrea Asuaje, musical director of No Southern Accent, the University of Florida's co-ed competitive a cappella group.

Please check out Eric Whitacre's blog at soaringleap.com for more information on the virtual choir and to see how you can make your own video.

  • Hey, Scottie. I know that you mashed up the first eight tracks already, and I was wondering if there was any way I could get a look at it. I'd love to hear it!

  • Ahhh! I JUST "discovered" the virtual choir a little while ago and I'm so happy to see that a Gator got to be a part of that amazing experience!

  • @ateadrianne She's the biggest ego centric person in FL. Surgeon My asss ... or should she reduce her's. LOL

  • i love alto love love!!!!

  • GREAT! I learn this part in 2009 listening to you, and today my director said "We're gonna to do Sleep again" and I just get home and search for you, so I'm studying with your help again :D

  • Finally, someone who manages to get the concept of straight-tone and can still make it sound great! I hate when people in my choir do this song and they want to make themselves sound good by adding crazy vibrato which makes them stick out like a sore thumb. Good job!

  • I've watched several of these Sleep audition pieces, and none have the beep at the beginning? Were these videos for the first Sleep or the remake 2011?

  • amazing breath support!!!!

man, how did you hold "lead" so clear and strong for that long!

I sing alto 1 as well, in my highschool choir.

you are so so so so good!!!

  • Can I possibly get your email address?

Sorry, I just want to start an A Cappella group at Concordia College this year, and I think I might need a few pointers : )

I want to conduct, but I might also want to sing, and I know that it will mainly be my stuff, but probably a few more people's music...

Anyway, thank you!!! You sound so beautiful, and strong! Beautiful Alto sound!

  • I love the name of your group! "No Southern Accent", how grand.

Our university, Southern Adventist University has a student paper called "Southern Accent". Funny, eh?

As for the video, pretty good!

  • This was ok. Could use some work on the low notes because I could hear some scratchy notes down near the Bb at 'mind's aflight'. Also the note on "shadow" and "light" was a bit flat because I noticed that you sang "night" right but I heard a different note on the other two.

But other than that, this is pretty decent.

    Keep practicing! Good job!

    :O)
