  • By the way I respect your well thought opinion. Life is what you make it, you can be whatever you want in life. I have lived and worked in Kenya and other countries and I have seen the difference effective governance and systems make in people lives. Kenya is a rich country, that if governed well, can rise up to many's amazement. It is frustrating to see people die of hunger while Kenyans highlands are used to plant cash crops, or while politicians steal thousands of bags of maize for a profit.

  • @dmulx....... in life we are usually told to go to college and save for retirement. I don't know about you but if that was easy we would all be rich. It sounds so easy when you you explain this solution like the way you do. There are so many factors to be considered but i respect your opinion and i'll leave it at that.

  • 30% tax is acceptable with his pay grade. Did you know that among 70k that he/she pays in taxes, only 50% is put in good use, the rest is squandered or lost through corruption. With a less corrupt government and a more equitable tax system from Jua Kali, farmers & politicians, the KRA can double its tax collection and health care cost can be met. The problem is tho' not lack of money, but lack of competent systems to ensure equitable tax collection and zero tolerance to corruption.

  • @dmlux.....Just explain to me where will this money come from.

  • @dmlux....my basic question is this who will pay for it and how. Are we going to borrow money? I know of a guy in Kenya whose salary is ksh 250,000 . his taxes are 70,000. Do we tax him more. Where is this money going to come from? This solution lies to other things. eg if we eradicate slums thru better housing typhoid, cholera etc will be no more. If the govt allows people to take loans and take themselves to school they can live better lives without govt help and tax more people!!!

  • Kenyans don't need exaggerated expensive health care system....All that Kenyans need is subsidized medicine for common diseases, like Malaria, HIV AIDS, Cholera....is that too much to ask from a government? and yes, it is not right for any Kenyan to die because he cannot afford medicine. It is inhuman and the Govt has a duty to provide medicine to his people.

  • The cost of health care in the U.S is exaggerated. Did you know that if you get a common flu fever in the U.S and you don't have health insurance, you may end up spending USD3000 dollars or more? while in Kenya you only need a few tablets to suppress the flu and fever at a cost of a few Kenyan Kshs? The main cost of high health care cost in the the US are;

    Exaggerated Pharmaceutical costs, Excessive reimbursement of physicians for procedural skills and a greedy insurance system.

  • Oh, by the way...the idea of relying on produce based exports to make us rich is ridiculous and has never worked for over 40 years and will never work. That's why I say our leaders are incompetent to govern and our Citizens are ignorant.

  • You have a good point that Kenya is not the richest countries in the World, but you forget that you don't have to be rich to get access to affordable health care. The last time I checked a doze of Malaria medicine was not a million Kshs, neither was ARVs. The cost of treating flu in the U.S is 20x more than in Kenya. I guess my point is,good health care is not a privilege for the rich, but a right.

  • @dmulx....either way someone has to pay for it. Our free education is not "free" it's paid for by donors. So who will pay for our "affordable health care". Kenya was once rich today it is not. You can argue this point. rich countries export more than they import. It's like earning more than you spend. Kenya imports everything from planes, phones, computers, medicine, clothes,shoes,sugar. we export tea, coffee, flowers. So do 40 other countries. How are we rich? we can't live on debt forever!!
