I FINALLY was at the eagles' nest by the Jericho Youth Hostel to witness them mating!
After countless hours and several weeks of waiting, my patience has paid off.

whoa, wait second. wheres the lil ritual i heard about where they flyu really high in the air, lock tallons, mate while falling, and either seperate in time after they finish or die together while still mating?

Almost any other species and this would be more than I ever needed to see, but it's so great to see them doing well after we almost destroyed them. They're beautiful birds.

I thought they lock talons in mid-air to mate?

@shaunoftheundead that is a courtship ritual. the actual mating takes place on a surface, the male's something-sac needs to . . . whatever someone else explained I don't know the details. The talon-locking thing is a courtship they usually do before mating season but also year-round.
I'm still waiting for the day I get a shot of that, eagles locked together spiralling fast towards the earth, I've seen it but unfortunately missed it with the camera.
