if they expanded the cfl more... it might compete with hockey here in Canada

Also I'm not saying it's the toughest sport ever -- but you really need to comprehend that just because you have padding, doesn't make it physical, tough or hard sport to play. With these pads and helmets, these players are also able to perform and go for hits that a Rugby player simply wouldn't do, like leading with your head which can be a pretty vicious hit.

@mwidunn I tried your link, however it didn't work.
They need armor because as I said -- a hit by a no name CB is equivalent to a 35 mph car crash. If that's not physical, I'm not sure what is. If you don't like American Football that's fine, but stop being so ignorant by saying It's not respectable, as if it's not already a multi-billion dollar industry with hundreds of millions of fans. You call it tedious spectacle, and we find reptitive running back and forth tedious. It's all subjective.

@Redemptionx7 Maybe, armor IS necessary in case one of those fat, bloated, oxygen-sucking offensive linemen falls on you: youtube[dot]com/watch?v=azQ7K6
JxSlc. American Football is a tedious spectacle that tries to pass itself off as much more physical than it really is. Take the armor off; play both ways for a full 60 min. with severely limited subs; and, don't stop the clock. Do those and, then, maybe American Football is on its way to being respectable. -
@mwidunn And before you spout bullshit about the LA rugby team -- keep in mind they used some no name CB also. Put in Demarcus Ware,James Harrison, or Ndamukong Suh and that number is WAY higher. Both sports are tough, just realize they're actually NOT comparable. Besides, American Football is based a lot around strategy, and injuring star players doesn't do anything to help the sport. The pads help dissipate the force, avoiding injury, but there's still a LOT of force and pain involved.

@mwidunn Just watch the video before you make dumb comments. They're not comparable. If you watched the video, you'd realize American Football players delivered hits that were 3 times harder than Rugby players. But Rugby players hit more often so they even out at the end of the day. But the hit from the American player was equivalent to a car crash at 35 mphs/56 kmh, it also pushed in their sternum to their spine by 2 and 1/4.

@Fr3aKiNRiCaN1107 players that are 6'4" are small?
@theevilm1 In the CFL, a point is rewarded to the kicking team on a missed field goal, unless the ball hits the upright or is brought out of the end zone by the opposing team. In this case, Toronto had to get the ball out of the end zone in order to send the game to OT. Also, there are no "fair catches" in the CFL. Instead, the kicking team has to give five yards of seperation between the ball carrier and the tackler, or else they get penalized.
