If you are using Windows XP you would currently be hiding your extensions by default. This is why you get the double extension as you described below. I will assume you have a good understanding of Windows XP and know where to find most things within a window.

The following instructions assume you use windows XP Pro!

All right, what you need to do.

Step 1:
Open my computer so you see your hard drives like c: d: etc.

Step 2:
Locate the "tools" menu on the top bar open it and scroll down till you see folder options and then select that.

Step 3:
Locate the tab labelled "View" and click on it.

Step 4: Read each item with a chick box next to it until you find one that reads "Hide extensions for known file types". This box should be unchecked. Click "Apply" and all the file extensions should be revelled.

Hopefully this will help you out in someway if not get back to me and I'll make a video to show you (if I get time).

  • I just got a JVC everio GZ-MS100 and i downloaded the software that came with it and when i got to download it to my PC

(back up) i can never find it and saves somewhere i cant find it and if i do ever find it it wont let me drag it to wmm

    please respond

  • If you install the USB drivers the camera should come up as an external hard drive. Copy the video files from the HDD to your computer then rename the extension to .Mpg

  • ok thankyou

but i have one more problem

i changed the .mod to .mpg and i can put it into wmm but when i put it a clip in its blank and you can just here the audio.

  • You need to download a program called "windows media encoder" and that will convert the files ready to be used with windows movie maker.
