If you want to go the router table route, a shaper is better. Shaper cutters are larger, will cut a larger sweep at entry and exit points that will feel better under your left playing hand.

That jig is absolutely brilliant!!! Fantastic job, and thanks for sharing!

overkill

@JonDeth With all respect, that is incorrect. First it is difficult to obtain a routing bit that will give a satisfactory neck profile. They are expensive and wear out quickly. Secondly having the same profile and depth over the whole length of the neck does not feel good and is not what musicians prefer. This jig allows much more scope to modify the neck depth and shape over it's whole length. In addition the shaper knives are much cheaper and more easily sharpened than router bits.

Beautiful jig. Fast, accurate and repeatable.

Thats great. I was watching some other videos and this one seems about the most efficient. I mean we all don't have cnc in our basements. I was visualizing a homemade duplicator with one table routing stock and the other table tracing neck jigs. But this is more compact and I'll assume you can carve the back of the neck and adjust the taper over the length. I like it.

This is a fantastic jig! Nice work!

I dont know why people are slamming this jig. Sure you could take a few passes with a large radius bit but this ides offers more control. I can see many ways to alter this jigs for different shapes and tapers that give control. Anyone who has ever carved a neck on the router knows if you try and hog out the shape in one pass with hard maple for instance - you are asking for trouble.
Is there a better way? Sure maybe but this is his way and looks like it works for him too. Glad he shared it.

nice !

for those who are looking for plans for this jig, there is another guy who has a channel here and he has a router based one that is a little less complex. he is bobo9977. his jig is in the part 6 video. i built it and it works great.
That jig makes a very simple task ridiculously complex. A router table with the right bit is all it takes

Well, don't think so, with this there's no carving need anymore if you have flat heel neck like on our travel guitars or on a electric guitar. You get super clean shaped endings, we just finish sand the necks and are done.

There are furniture bits that will more or less, do exactly what you're doing in 2 passes.

Hey, that's great if you found your own sufficient enough way to do the task with smaller machinery, I'm well aware of the many other possibilties how to get the job done. Everybody just got to find the best way with the machinery available. Also, it's always depending on how many guitars you're building a month... I wouldn't recommend such a jig to a hobbiest.
However, let's leave at that, thanks

I emailed at least a year ago and you said you would have plans available for your jig. Did I miss this release? Do you have plans available now?

No, you didn't miss anything. I'm sorry, I've just been too busy building guitars...
I still plan to offer drawings for this jig, it's just rather complex though to make it clear to everybody. Thanks for your patience.
Greetings
Luke
