  • @MikeBflo3 Not true.. I know I've done this experiment at home... If you re-orientate the reproducer it will still put out the same volume of sound, and if you play a pathe or edison disc it will not play ANY louder, trust me.

  • The pin goes thru the cup, i.e. it will register sounds with the grooves going back and forth OR up and down.. yes it's true the original design of wind up phono's was made to maximize the back & forth movement of the grooves but just piercing the cup with the needle like this will give u sound regardless... your point is invalid, sorry. If you used his set up to play back an edison thick disk it will work too but the sound will be lower as those records were pressed with less volume.

  • @Pokemon55044 The first ones of these were DIAMOND needles, what do you think that did to them.

  • lol, good work but so long to that record. I don't think it can take much of that.

  • Wow. You can create anything with legos, can't you?

  • I once built one with meccano, the sound was magnificently metallic!!!

  • Stereo or Mono has nothing to do with it. The 33rpm LP you are playing will move the "needle" side to side, not up and down! The way you have the cup and needle set right now - only the up and down motion would be heard. Change the orientation of the needle and cup so vibrations from side to side will be "amplified". Search for an image of a Victor Exibition or #2 reproducer, and you can see how they are set to pick up only the side to side movement of the steel needle!

  • Very interesting... thanks for that. So this lego player would produce a better sound if an old monoral vinyl disk was put down. Are there vertical-cut 33 1/3 discs? Perhaps before "hi-fi" stereo records were invented?

  • Nice! Well done on the camera work, too. I wanted a closer look at the needle... and you gave it to me!

  • neat.
