An exclusive series of Living Legends Music interviews with Mark Farner, formerly of Grand Funk Railroad. Part 7 of 9. Recorded on March 15, 2009 in Weston, FL.
In 1987 in Austin, Texas, I sat down and interviewed Mark when he was on a solo tour. He is the real deal. I've been a fan ever since I saw Mark, Mel & Don in San Antonio in 1970. He is such a great dude. In 1997, I saw him in Austin, Texas again and met his wife Lisa, his son Jason and other GFR members. They are the original gargage band made good. Love live GFR!!!
If there are "two" sides to the story, why now does "sewer brewer" and his butt boy mel either remain silent or state that they can't comment as the issue is in "lidigation"? Well, since this has been going on since approx 1998, seems to me since high profile murder cases are addressed in less time, then who's blowing smoke? From what I read, Mark is doing quite well with his solo career, he really doesn't need them, but only thinks of the fans who loved and supported GFR. Believe what you want.
@derhandtrommler True. We can look at this at least two different ways. One could say those who seek out a church are trying to train and guide themselves to be more ethical and moral (nothing wrong with that), but remember they aren't perfect and are likely to screw up, hence, Mark could be full of it. Of course, we don't know all sides to this story and I wish we did; Don and Mel could be just like Mark said. We don't know. Kinda sad since GFR is one of my favorite bands.
Those who condemn Mel and Don don't know the other side to the story. And there is one. They were more than willing to keep the 1997 reunion going into 2000, but Farner wanted solo gigs with guys he could push around. Don and Mel were told they couldn't work without Mark's approval so they BOUGHT him out. Farner was paid to leave GFR, and paid well. Now that his solo career has fallen flat, he wants " To Get Back In", but he made his way and he is now lying in it.
Mark thank you for everything... you helped me and you will live forever
