Primestar actually predated Dish Network and DirecTV. We had it from February 1996 to September 1998, when we were having financial problems and couldn't afford the monthly payment.

Yep,i had it back when I lived in coarsegold,ca.That truly was hicksville.

Primestar was for people that lived in the boonies, couldn't afford a C-Band and didn't have access to a cable connection.

Primestar was the attempt by cable companies to compete with Directv and Dish. It failed.
