I made six 25 gram motors out of one batch and tested three of them at the MDRA launch (ESL 123) on 8-16-2008.
Static Test 14 with PVC-8 resulted in a slow 45 second burn. I'm not sure what happened, but I thought it could be the igniter, or could be contamination from the cooking oil I used to lubricate the coring rod.
Test 15 with PVC-11 worked better. I used a different igniter and put masking tape over the nozzle to let the gasses build up some more.
I then tested the scratch built saucer rocket called "Ground Zero" with an Estes B6-4. Although it looked funny, it is effective because it is high drag so it stays low and falls back slow, without ejection charge or parachute required. This first flight went about 25 feet.
Test 16 used PVC-12 in the Ground Zero rocket. It burned a bit longer than Test 15 and went up to about 75 feet.
never understood the fascination with saucers. 25 feet? I just don't get it.

That saucer cost me $0, I didn't have to worry about a recovery system, and I was able to test the relative performance of my motor to a commercial motor.
