Tacoma Bridge

This is a real Bridge. It was built knowing there was a stronger model available. But it was budget driven. It only lasted for 4 months, and then they built the stronger model anyway.

saw this in physics (study of wave mechanics). It turns out that the distance between the main supports was a pure harmonic of the frequency of the wind blowing through the canyon. The wind transfered energy into the bridge.

A dog was left behind in the car. It died.

The proper name of it was/is the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. The only fatality was the photographer's dog, which refused to get out of the car. The wreckage of "Galloping Gertie" is still there below the two current bridges, & is a great habitat for marine life.
