I took a trip with a friend down to the Outer Banks of North Carolina this past summer (2009) to see the lighthouses. We didn't stop by all of them on our way down, as we only had a day. This is some of the stuff that I shot.

For a great resource on NC Lighthouses, and Lighthouses across North America, visit: http://www.lighthousefriends.com/pull-state.asp?state=NC&Submit=Go

  • Currituck lighthouse looks alot like Cape Hatteras lighthouse; except without the daymark and is shorter; much much shorter!

  • @Umpqua1012, Thanks for the info, and you are right. Cape Hatteras is actually the tallest light house in the US, standing at a total of 208 feet. While Currituck, Bodie, and Hatteras are similarly modeled after one another, Currituck and Bodie are some 20 feet shorter; Bodie being 164 feet tall, and Currituck being 162 feet tall, respectively. I would love to live out on the OBX one day.

  • i live there and im going to ocracoke today (AKA)october,16 2011 and it is a sunnday

  • @dogloverobx, have a safe and enjoyable trip! Wish I lived out there!

  • awesome vid!! im going in less than 2 weeks-- great 'stay-cation' vid to tie me over till then!! thank you!

  • @Bushxy, Thank you, and glad you enjoyed the video. Enjoy your visit on the Outer Banks, seeing them on video is one thing, but once you encounter them in person, it is truly an amazing experience!

  • I would love to climb Cape Hatteras! but my cousin said she would be scared to climb up there! She's even petrified to climb the lighthouse in Port Elizabeth; which is only 26 meters high!

  • @dogloverobx Not to sure

  • That bird at 05:08 is locally known here as a 'strandlopertjie' That means 'beachcomber' in our local language.
