if you take raw eggs and pick wild flowers, particularly purple ones and place them on the eggs with the onion skin over them wrap them in aluminum foil and hard boil them when you take them off the flowers will be printed on the egg with the beautiful onion print as well!

My grandmother and her sister always made their Easter eggs this way...they were of English/German descent and although they are both no longer with us, we always make a dozen or so of these eggs for Easter.

Yup, no artificial colors here. Nice warm earthy tones too.

I actually bought white eggs for this because my eggs are brown and the color doesn't show up as nice.

My Czech friends showed me how to do this. If you let them boil for longer and steep for a long time (like hours), you can get a darker, mahogany bronze color. And if you place a leaf or petal on the egg before you put the skins on, you can have a lovely pattern on top, too. Mej se hesky

Thanks. I think my mother and I found this in a magazine when i was a kid. We made them every year after that.
