When receiving information from the environment, the brain does not treat each sensory input independently, but rather integrates the various inputs together and with pre-existing knowledge. This video shows how some auditory and optical inputs, together with our pre-existing knowledge about how the lips move when producing a sound, are all automatically and unconsciously integrated by the brain.

Watch this video a couple of times and notice what syllables are being spoken, then close your eyes and listen just to the sound.
