This is a Harlequin Great Dane Puppy in surgery durring ear crop. This is what your puppy goes through for his ears to stand. Please only crop knowing what your entering into. It is work and taping, and pain to get these ears up, but in my oppinion its worth it, others may not think so.

  • was he asleep?

  • @sn00py916 Yes he was asleep.

  • twocute4u19 - If cropping, as you admit, causes pain then how is it "worth it" exactly?

  • @britsalt - It up to you, In my oppinion, Its worth it for me because I am wanting to show my puppy, and I also like the appearence of a great dane with the ears cropped. It depends on your reason. Ear cropping is most often performed to comply with standards for various breeds. Several breeds either require ear cropping or accept cropped ears in the show ring. Whether or not to have the ears cropped, however, is a personal decision.

I guess because a lot of people fix their dogs to prevent unwanted mating/health problems (or to lessen certain behaviors or w/e), while this is just for looks. But it's really up to the owner.

  • i must admit this looks really cruel but fuck this breed looks sick with the ears cropped!

  • Ear cropping just makes certain breeds more aesthetically pleasing. I have schnauzers, and I love the way they look after a proper ear crop. While it does cause the dogs some discomfort, it has never affected the quality of my dogs life. They can and do still eat, play, and appear happy. Not to mention, vet medicine has come a long way and pain medications for dogs are readily available.

  • Its not the surgery that is so bad, its the post surgery that causes them so much pain. The worse is when you get a pups ears cropped and its in the dead heat of summer. The heat and humidity causes all sorts of infections, therefore the post must be changed frequently. I would recommend getting a round of antibiotics (if its hot and humid when you are). This will allow the dog to have little to no problems with infection. If the ears become infected you CANNOT post them--you must let them rest

  • i dont get it why is it ok to get a dog fixed but not get his ears cropped....??

  • he mentioned he wants to show the dog & that it is required for certain breeds. its "worth it" because it makes the dog look so much better. p.s- its no more painful than having him fixed
