This is a videotutorial showing the 7 basic toon shaders that maya brings to us in the maya toon menu, and also the most general features of the toon outlines.

Render time of the images was around 15 hours, each image took around 4-5 seconds of render, 15000 frames more or less. Sound was recorded with "sound recorder" that we all have, in start/programs/accesories/entertainment...
Then I put them all together on Audition.
Sound was later edited on Adobe Audition and exported to Maya to lip-sync accordingly with the blend shapes of the mouth and the eyes (just a blink).

I first animated the mouth and then start again moving the arms, head, legs and so on.

I had some easy GUI to move the head, hands and feet, Beto has a very simple bone structure with Smooth Bind, the clothes are not really clothes :P, just some faces colored like I wanted. I would've wanted to use n-cloth but I wasn't sure about the proper options to use for a easy workflow.

The videos on the screen were recorded with Camtasia Studio, I played the sound and inmediatly began to record and work on maya according to what I was hearing.

Then in Adobe After Effects I put all the sequence of the images and the sound, and made them match as flawless as possible. Then I opened a new file and reimport what I did before, to be able to handle both sound and images in one layer and cut them easily and put images in between introducing the materials.

Windows Paint is really useful to quickly cut images and put together some pictures and re-export them to AE :P. Finally I put some cool music in the background from the ITG games, modifying the wave and volume to fade accordingly in the middle of the images, start and end of the video.

Exported from AE in QT with compressor H.264, or also it turns out very very well using "Windows Media" format, which weights waaaaay less than a QT of avi format. QT format full quality was about 10 GB !! while Windows Media (this one in yutube), was just 40 MB.

Irfan View is a really cool program to re-name of re-format a full sequence of pictures, i needed to rename them for AE to import correctly the sequence. (image00001, image00002.....image15000);

It took me around 1.5 monts to fully finish, from the start of animation to the final video working 8-10 hours/day.

  • @Bidon45 Blender isnt too bad either. I managed to get one of my projects to have that 100% cell drawn look in Blender. Well.. ok.. maybe only 90%

  • @Bidon45 Never worked on 3D Max :P, but....Let's say.......Maya :P

  • Maya or 3ds max better for toon shaders?

  • @wildnative4Utube Yes, check out my profile and the description of THIS video !!
