Here is the link to the news article about the CDC estimate that there are 5.2 million kids with noise-induced hearing loss. The main reason for this is loud entertainment noise "music."

Here's a link to a letter in The Oklahoma Daily from dorm resident Asher Killian, who protested the noise in the dorms and specifically objected to the loud outdoor rock concerts:

David Boren, former U.S. Senator, is the fathead president of the University of Oklahoma. Boren loves noise. It makes him feel important and powerful. This video provides an example, with loud ugly entertainment noise blasting in the dorm area.
To make matters worse, Boren requires all freshmen students to live in OU dorms, even if their parents live across the street from the campus. He needs their money to pay off the 2004 revenue bonds for the construction of new student apartments. At the time, OU officials knew that OU enrollment was declining. They also expected it to decline in the future. The obvious suspicion is that Boren and his corrupt gang of henchmen were taking kickbacks from the construction contractors.
Boren resigned from his seemingly safe and powerful U.S. Senate seat in 1994. At that time he was being outed as gay and accused of sexually harassing his male staff members. Boren has managed to keep this information from being published in the mainstream press. He resigned after he was able to manipulate the OU regents into making him president of that school.
Boren and his strange crew of henchmen have been cavorting like jackasses ever since. Boren is one of the most contemptible fatheads to have ever held public office in the U.S.

This isn't about the talent of the musicians, it's about volume of the noise. Any music will sound bad when anyone is forced to listen to it, especially at this volume.

Can you pronounce Oahu and Ewa Beach? Or the fact that it is properly spelt Hawai'i with its subtle accent in pronounciation? Unless you lived there, like me, or studied its culture, like Michael has, you don't know. Not even the true meaning of Hula. Or Aloha.

On April 26, 2004, OU student Asher Killian published a letter in the Daily and protested noise in the dorms. Specifically, he objected to the loud outdoor rock concerts. See my text box for a link to his letter, noise-lover. You don't notice this loud noise because it is so normal to you that you even thrive on it. I see you like to ridicule people you consider to be "ancient." Why am I not surprised that a pea-brained noise-lover would be such a jerk?

CDC ESTIMATES 5.2 MILLION KIDS AFFLICTED WITH NOISE-INDUCED HEARING LOSS
See the text box for a link to the news article.
Are David Boren and his moronic henchman Clarke Stroud so stupid that they don't know that the loud booming entertainment events they allow on campus are frying some of the hearing hair cells of the students and visitors?
Should people this stupid be alllowed to administer universities?
If they know about this and do it anyway, then they're EVIL.

Mr. Wright, do you know the purpose of Island Party? Do you know the values of the organization behind Island Party? Do you even know the name of this organization?
Also, it only happens one night out of the entire school year, so take heed in the fact that the ugly and disturbing entertainment you so vehemently begrudge doesn't last for long.

My "story" is quite simple. I believe that all people deserve to have quiet when they want it in their living spaces, whether they be homes, apartments, dorms, or rooming houses. College campuses should always respect the need of serious students to have quiet for studying. If one student wants to sit on the campus under a tree and read a book, then that person's right to quiet is more important than other students' desires for loud outdoor noisy entertainment events.

I lived in Couch(96-98), Adams(98-01), and Walker(01-02) as a student. I had more problems with my neighbors making loud noises than I did from outside sources. Plus, it is Couch Cafeteria not Cross. Cross Center wasn't even open to residents til the 2000-2001 academic year.

I have heard that the dorms are also very noisy inside. Frequently there are students sleeping on the couches in the library. One of the librarians told me that this is because they are unable to get adequate sleep in the dorms, because of the noise.

"You have heard"
Once again I lived in the dorms, I know what the noise is like. If I had problems I simply walked to my neighbor's room and politely asked them to quiet down. If that didn't work I asked the RA to take care of it. There are floors that have a 24-hour quiet time. Most floors have it from 10pm-8am. If people are not getting adequate sleep in the dorms it is because they are not asking the right people to take care of the issue.

In a college dormitory, EVERY floor should have a 24-hour quiet time. This doesn't mean that residents shouldn't be able to watch TV and listen to music. It does mean that the volume should NEVER be loud enough to disturb residents in other rooms. That's just common sense and common decency. The fact that this collapse of civility has been allowed to take place in OU dorms is just more evidence that, during the Boren years, OU has descended into a quagmire of corruption and incompetence.
