Using the right soldering iron to solder trackwork is critical to success. We recommend the 35 watt Weller pencil type soldering iron with the ST7 conical shaped soldering tip.
Here we demonstrate how to use and take care of your iron and tip.

Can you get 'cancer' from the solder iron?
Becouse there is a label on my solder iron which says: this product contains DEHP, a Phthalate Chemical, Lead and other Chemicals known to the State Of California to cause cancer, birth defect and other reproduktive harm.

A 1000-watt iron would be grossly over-size. Did you mean 100-watt or 1000-degree?

would a 30W iron do?
utub1ng 10 months ago
@utub1ng 30W would be a bit on the light side. It may be OK for smaller rail codes such as code 40 or 55. But you would probably struggle with the larger rail.

You can buy the flux we recommend for soldering trackwork on the Fast Tracks website.
FastTracksTools 1 year ago
The flux we recommend is acid based and is mildly corrosive. However it is easily removed after soldering using wire brush or cleaned off with soap and water. We recommend acid based flux as it ensures that the surface is very clean making it much easier to solder the trackwork.

is a Well 25W pretty good?
rocknroll980 1 year ago
25W would be a bit on the light side. 35W is pretty much the minimum for soldering trackwork.
