It might be a generational thing but the old flag just looks wrong to me. I prefer our maple leaf flag. I love this song though. I wished this was sung more in ceremonial processions.
WRONG WRONG WRONG! THIS IS THE REAL LYRICS! In Days of yore, From Britain's shore Wolfe the dauntless hero came And planted firm Britannia's flag On Canada's fair domain. Here may it wave, Our boast, our pride And joined in love together, The thistle, shamrock, rose entwined, The Maple Leaf Forever.
"Oh Maple Leaf around the world, you speak as you rise high above - of courage, strength and quiet strength of the Canada that I love" ...."Bright flag revered on every ground, the Maple Leaf forever!" If that doesn't stir up a little pride in our frosty Canadian hearts, we're DEAD!
Considering Canada's diversity, why stop at one national anthem? Both are wonderful. "O Canada" fits formally, and "The Maple Leaf Forever" speaks of home to all Canadians. No, I'm not saying relegate it to hockey, but bring it forward. I love hockey, but I would LOVE to have a copy of Ann Murry singing this without the game in the background!
The last Red Ensign had red maple leaves and a modified harp. It was adopted in 1957.

@cgfhjmk It is the Red Ensign, which was our national flag until 1965, when it was replaced by the Maple Leaf Flag that is now known worldwide
