We'll never know what impact the "Florida Suite" would have had if disseminated sooner. If only Dvorak and Delius had crossed paths. Would it have shut Edward McDowell up about "Negro clothes cut in Bohemia(?)" As a result of the influences on "Florida Suite." it was unlike anything of its time. The same thing could be said about Gottschalk and the second movement of Symphony No.1,definitely an unsung red letter date in American music(1859!).
I don't see that "sanctimonious" is totally inaccurate. Though it's most often associated with false piety, it can also be construed to mean any sort of high-handed, self-righteous nonsense, and that's a fair description of your alleged 'criticism' of Delius.
Do you know *when* the Florida Suite was written? Probably not, so I'll tell you: 1887. But for some reason, we must sniff dismissively at Delius for not writing 19th C. music in the style of Anton Webern.
...it is a perfectly legitimate response to someone who declares *all* 20th C. British music insipid based on a survey of Frederick Delius and Gerald Finzi which said person admits is not even exhaustive for these two composers. To top it off, the piece about which he made this ignorant comment was written before the 20th century!
If anything, I've been remarkably patient, taking the time to inform you that British composition didn't stop after the War, and that there are numerous...

Your comment on my choice of icon is probably the nadir of your post. It requires the assumptions that I am a fan of Delius, that the aesthetic of a visual artist can be correlated to a particular musical aesthetic, and that one fan of a certain style of music must disdain all others.
That last is the most petty, and your posts are suffused with that pettiness.
For someone who's so obsessed about getting the correct meaning of a word, you're certainly playing fast and loose with the definition of "obvious".
If it's so obvious that Delius' music is "pablum", then it should be easy to demonstrate it with reference to specifics about his compositions.
As for the rest of what you wrote, it's practically a word salad. Is Tippett being rated as a "dull composer of tripe"? Does this go for his 4th Symphony or The Ice Break? You know nothing about music.
