I've been playing around with the feature on YouTube to associate a Closed Captioning file with your video and thereby allowing hearing impaired folks to "read" what you are saying while speaking.
I'm using the site http://www.overstream.net/index.php This means your video has to be public to use this to create the SRT file to upload to youtube for the closed captioning. I also tested a nifty little stand alone tool that worked well also.
So I upload this file, when it's live I can go to the overstream site and create a closed caption for it. I'm sure there are stand alone products that you can use as well.
I found one here http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Subtitles/SubCreator1.2.0.117.zip
That allows you to open your wmv video file and then make the captions. Then you just save as an SRT format file and when you go to "Captions and Subtitles" on your video it takes you to the page where you can upload your SRT file.

It is crazy that you are talking about closed captions but you did not include it in your video. Very bad!

My brother is deaf and I am trying to figure out how to add this cc to my videos. There is no device for deaf people to use that allows them to watch these videos. The videos have to be made with cc. How did you do it? I used an app through google called caption tube.appspot.com But, I can't get my computer to open the srt file.

I am deaf and I hear the sounds because I have it set up to stereo sound to increase volume but I cannot follow the words without closed captioned, I have to read and it would be wonderful and helpful if EVERYONE would add the closed captioned to their videos and music for us deaf/hard of hearing ppl!

I'd like the CC to play automatically.

Interesting - I didn't realize that feature was available.
So, if you add closed captions to your vlog, will it be visible to all viewers, or do each of us get to turn CC on or off in our preferences?

It's an option when viewing, in the lower right hand corner of the video as it plays.

some people like to slur their words, but would we have to say every word correctly and clearly like you Tim?
miker555 2 years ago
No because you actually create the original file in text. it's the text that get's translated, not what you are saying in your video.

I thought you had to upload captions in each language? They really do it automatically?
Anyway, my prediction is that the 2015 version of YouTube will auto transcribe the video & then translate it to all of the different languages for you. All the technology is there, why not? They just need to implement it. Google, are you listening? Of course you are, chop chop. :)

Yeah apparently the translation occurs in the background from the original language, the feedback so far is pretty positive. The translation has been close except for a few colloquialisms that I've used in my video like "ready to rock and roll" doesn't translate well.
