Former US ambassador to Vatican Thomas Patrick Melady in an interview for Croatian Radio-Television (HRT) talking about his years in Vatican (1989-1993), how Pope John Paul II and the Catholic Church saw in 1990 at the future of Yugoslavia and about the wish of the Croatian and Slovenian leadership for independence. Ambassador explains why Vatican wanted to help Croatia and Slovenia to secede from Yugoslavia and reminds that the official position of US was against dissolution of Yugoslavia in the beginning but changed after Germany and Austria pushed for recognition of Croatia and Slovenia as independent states.

Bivsi ambasador SAD u Vatikanu Tomas Patrik Melejdi u intervjuu Hrvatskoj Radioteleviziji (HRT) govori o godinama provedenim u Vatikanu (1989-1993), kako su Papa Jovan-Pavle II i Katolicka Crkva gledali na buducnost Jugoslavije 1990. godine i na zelju hrvatskog i slovenackog rukovodstva za nezavisnoscu. Ambasador objasnjava zasto je Vatikan imao zelju da pomogne Hrvatskoj i Sloveniji da se odcijepe od Jugoslavije i podsjeca da je sluzbeni stav SAD u pocetku bio protivljenje raspadu Jugoslavije ali se promijenio nakon insistiranja Njemacke i Austrije na priznavanju Hrvatske i Slovenije kao nezavisnih drzava.
