NASA will mark the 40th anniversary of the first Apollo moon landing this summer. Neil Armstrong took "One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind" on July 20, 1969. NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, Va., played a key role in selecting the landing site and developing the means to land humans on the moon and safely return to Earth. Today, Langley is in the forefront of activities to return to the moon for extended stays in support of exploration and scientific studies.
