First Time - Lena Dunham For Obama on Voting First Time

This is the famous viral lost virginity TV commercial shot by hip film producer Lena Dunham as her endorsement of Barack Obama for his reelection as President. The name of the ad is First Time and it uses the technique of double entendre to imply that she is losing her virginity, i.e. her voting virginity by voting for the first time, for the right type of guy, ... who cares about whether you have birth control, lol.

The advertisement starts out: Your first time shouldn't be with just anybody... you want to do it with a great guy. It should be with a guy with beautiful ... someone who really cares about and understands women.... and cares whether you get birth control.

In this case the right guy has Obama's record on issues Lena Dunham supports ranging from the economy to health care, women's rights, abortion and so on. As she tells the story she implies that she is making a decision on who to have sex with for the first time, i.e. lose her virginity, but as she goes further into the story, you can see that she is selecting who to vote for for the first time and it's a politician like Barack Obama.

There were obvious criticisms of this ad, one being that it backfired massively on Obama, and the large number of thumbs down seems to support that. The other is that it copies the idea of a commercial used in Russia by strong-man Vladimir Putin, who of course has a poor record on human rights.
