THE PILLOWMAN
by Martin McDonagh

March 13th ~ 29th 2008

HELD OVER until April 5th due to popular demand!
"Comedies don't come any blacker than The Pillowman, the spellbinding stunner of a play by Martin McDonagh.....what The Pillowman is about, above all, is storytelling and the thrilling narrative potential of theater itself. Let's make one thing clear: Mr. McDonagh is not preaching the power of stories to redeem or cleanse or to find a core of solid truth hidden among life's illusions. And he is certainly not exalting the teller of stories as a morally superior being."
- The New York Times

"I'm a firm believer in making stuff up," he said. "I'm not particularly pessimistic or dark. Am I? Not on a daily basis." He allowed that in his late teens and early 20s "shyness and being alone a lot" made him sad. Little wonder. He had left school and holed up in the family home in a working-class London neighborhood to become a writer. "Now I'm happy to be alone," he said. He hints at unhappy relationships in the past and won't say if there's someone in his life right now. When his mother tells him she wishes he'd write "a nice romantic comedy or something," he reminds her of "The Lieutenant of Inishmore." "It was romantic. It's funny. Everyone dies, but it's kind of like life." - Martin McDonagh

  • wat exactly is your problem? the sort of intensity theatre provides can only be created by that medium. theatre is the ultimate way to tell a story - the words of the story become flesh and blood. something happens when there is a human, living and breathing, creating the story directly in front of you. it is not boring, and, seeing as no one watches it anymore, it's not a fad. where have you been?

  • uh wait what was that supposed to be? it was just a bunch of random lines from the play with music in the background. anyway, I LOVE THIS PLAY!!!!

  • wat does Michal look like??? cos we r doin this play at skool and i play michal so i am just wondering who plays him :D

  • in your face theater is boring and a fad.

  • made me feel like a potato in the wind

  • Loved it!!!

Great intensity that is dark and humorous all at the same time
