  • I'm curious as to which bin code of XR-E they use in the Serac S2&3 but so far have come up empty in my search.

As far as AA lights go, I'm pretty happy with my AKOray. Gray anodized finish with grippy knurling, water resistant o-ring seals, uses a Q5-binned XR-E... Three programmable mode slots so I could set them up how I like, last-used mode memory, and it'll take anything in AA form factor. Very bright on alkaline & NiMH, and even a little brighter on 14500 li-ion.

  • ask on candlepowerforums....but I know they are both X-RE 7090 cree's

  • Seems like Leatherman's being a bit tight-lipped on the subject and cpf is trying to figure it out as well. Hopefully we can use output and runtime tests to figure out which grade the diode is.

  • I talk to a nice guy who goes by the name CPFcarrot, he just got all three models direct from leatherman for review, he has a full review on them, he might know some more info as he talked directly with leatherman represenatives...Also contact Fenix, as many are saying Fenix made these for leatherman...

  • I wish leatherman would make a nice AA light like these. I think I'm unna buy one of these too though.

  • yeah a AA version of this light woudl be excellent!

  • would this be able to handle a 3.7 volt aaa battery ?

  • also saw this at tjmaxx for $13 and decided to buy one, i was so impressed by the quality i went back next day and bought the remaining 2 that were left. its made in china but designed in portland and meets all leatherman qc specs. its an awesome little light.. clip works great on ball caps

  • @MrScrappydue Yeah! I got a couple of the S3s also.I didn't mention it because I didn't want e-mails from people thinking I was B.Shitting,it's happened.Did you go to Tj Max after my posting? if you did, glad I could help. I thought they would make nice X-Mass gifts. The Marshals at webster square in Worcester,Mass. still has the S3s on the shelf and I think it's because of the battery size (123A). I was a working plumber not to long ago so I have a few diff Pelican lights also.

  • @MrScrappydue I found 3 of them at Tj Max for the minimum price of $12.99 also. This is an excellent deal.

  • FYI. I just purchased ths Leatherman S2 light at Marshals dept store for $12.99 and I'm sure Tj Max will have them untill they sell out.

I also bought the S3 for $14.99 in case your interested.

  • watch the next leatherman light have a knife and small pliers on it:)

  • Some Leatherman lights are re-branded Fenix lights.

I have an actual Fenix L1T v.2, but there is a review on youtube that is an L1T v.2 but the guy bought it from a Costco store with the Leatherman branding.

  • I found this light for 20€ so I guess I am gonna buy it. Thanks for great review!

  • @cutlerylover Either Fenix or NexTorch made this model for LM. Seen one AAA and AA by NexTorch and the head thing is very similar to this LM. Just opinion. I might be wrong :) Always good reviews from you. Tks.

  • "I like cheap easy to find alkaline batteries in my flashlights".... Same here...
