Flyers / Devils 1987 Brawl: Ron Hextall vs Alain Chevrier

This is a great bench clearing brawl that took place on January 24th 1987 between the Philadelphia Flyers and the New Jersey Devils. The best part is Ron Hextall kicking the crap out of Alain Chevrier. If you watch someone hits them with a cold beverage which seems to cause Hexy to go midevil on Mr. Chevrier. Ahh those were the days!

Overrated hu? He is only 25th all time in wins a mere 5 behind a pretty good goalie named Mike Richter in 58 LESS games played. He is #1 on the Flyers all time wins list. Bernie Parent is #2. Hextall did that in less games than it took Bernie. He was an All Star, Vezina Trophy Winner, Conn Smythe Trophy winner on the LOOSING team. 1st goalie to score a goal and did it twice before anyone else did it once. Best stick handing goalie ever. No, he was not Brodeur but that ain't shabby!

If that is how you choose to determine which player is better on a team game then that is your choice. Keep in mind however that Bernie was a below average goalie before he found himself on one of the most intimidating and dominant teams in the NHL. His record before then was only 94-138.

His career may have ended early but "cut short"? He played 608 games in 14 seasons. How many more seasons might he played? 2? 3 maybe?

Again, lets be realistic. Yes, that is accurate. It is also accurate that Hextall was the first goalie to score a goal by shooting the puck into the opponents net both in the regular season and in the playoffs. Which one would you rather be known for? I would rather be known as the first one to actually score a goal and not be the first goalie to simply be awarded with one because the score sheet required someone's name be filled in.
