Keir Dullea encounters a mysterious object, in a scenario reminiscent of the penultimate scene from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey that he appeared in over forty years ago.

This spec teaser was developed over a two year period on a shoestring budget. Live action was filmed multi-camera, against greenscreen atop a backlit plexi floor on a shoestring budget. Mr. Dullea was then integrated into an entirely digitally created CG set rendered at 1080HD.

"2011" teases the Immersive Cocoon, a future concept study by Tino Schaedler with design collective NAU. An idea to provoke a new conception of how we could at times interface with computers in a surround visual/aural environment, where your entire body becomes the interface.

Directed & 3D CG by Oliver Zeller. More info, behind the scenes & full credits at www.i-cocoon.com.

  • This isn't a trailer for a longer piece, just a teaser to entice viewers to find out more about this non commercial concept study. Another potential video would illustrate the practical applications of the Immersive Cocoon, but would have no basis in Kubrick's in work. This was inspired by that 2001 scene, as the monolith represented an evolutionary jump for humanity, the Cocoon represents an evolutionary jump in how we could at times interact with computers.

  • It's an original composition created specifically for this teaser by Steven Chand. You can check out his work at .violetroommusic

  • Isn't revolutionary at all.

Its just a 360 degree screen in a sphere, not a holodeck. As long as the image requires a medium (like a screen to project an image) the experience will always be immersion breaking.

And no task however complicated would require such a wide display area. A dual touch screen monitor should suffice for multitasking. And I'd rather go to egypt to see monuments than sit inside a plastic bubble.

  • This is a marvel. Almost perfect cinematographic object. Well done tribute to a classic movie. Intriguing sphere. Nice blend with Apple products. Am I dreaming ?

  • what song is playinG!?

  • Wow! Ethereal and strange. A really great homage to Kubrick...well done
