"My nonviolence does not admit of running away from danger and leaving dear ones unprotected. Between violence and cowardly flight, I can only prefer violence to cowardice. I can no more preach nonviolence to a coward than I can tempt a blind man to enjoy healthy scenes." -Mahatma Gandhi

12:00 What does this speaker mean that he doesn't believe in class war? It's occurring now, with the employing/owning class waging warfare on the rest of us, the working class. The capitalists will never concede power peacefully. Also, the Indian people did not oust the British peacefully. That is, at best, gross ignorance of history. At worst, it is a lie spread to neuter the Left (see "Pacifism as Pathology" by Ward Churchill).

I only bring up my previous criticism since constantly bringing up some sort of violence/nonviolence argument is really stale and unnecessary at a public speaking event such as this one. Strategically speaking, it is neither the time nor the place for that discussion. It is also quite alienating for victims of violence who have committed violent acts in their own self-defense to be constantly "policed" by a supposedly revolutionary movement. It is offensive and needlessly divisive.

@ghostofczolgosz I don't completely disagree with you that violent means should not be ruled out, especially when our nonviolent inaction is the cause for the free ride that the american military has in destroying other countries. I can't help but think myself a bit hypocritical when I drive my gas guzzling car to protests against the wars which are waged to secure me the access to that gas.

@ghostofczolgosz That said, I think that orginization and building a cohesive movement is far more important. Violence has not worked for Timothy Mcvey or Kaczynski because it is to easy for the media to paint these people as lunatics. I think that what America does abroad is very unpopular within the United States, but people lack the cohesion to make their voices heard. I think that violence is far more decisive than a common nonviolent cause.
