@netguy02 There is some truth to what you are saying, however, Laurel just didn't 'click' with a lot of viewers. She was on the show for quite awhile though. Natalie lovers forever blamed her for Natalie's death and never warmed up to her.

@bluenail03 Perhaps one of the reasons that Laurel was so hated was because her portrayer Felicity LaFortune didn't come across as a helpless victim who would've felt she had no other choice but to steal from people. On the contrary, she appeared to be strong and smart and certainly not a damsel in distress. Therefore, the writers' repeated attempts to make Laurel look a victim that deserved viewers' sympathy always failed.

@bluenail03 KC's departure was a terrible loss to the show. Unfortunately, it seemed to coincide with a decline in the quality of AMC's writing. Although the show certainly ended up being in far worse shape in the 2000s, it never seemed to be quite as entertaining overall as it was during KC's original run.

@netguy02 Well, at least she returned as "Angel Natalie" those four times. "AMC" really lost a powerhouse actress when she left the show. Thankfully, she reprised Janet too on occasions.

@bluenail03 Your welcome.

@Carmaker1 Oh, thanks for the info. I was SO glad when Laurel was killed!
-
@bluenail03 She was killed off around February 9, 1996 when she was shot on the set of the Cutting Edge. I have episodes from the court case in which Janet represents herself.

@netguy02 Yes, they did blame her for Natalie's death. Laurel was not a fan fav, so it was only by a miracle that she lasted this long. Laurel was finally killed off in '97. It is very sad to know that Fran Heflin (Mona) had less than a year to live in these scenes.

That' s true! I have no idea what prompted Felicity LaFortune's departure, but some viewers blamed Laurel for Natalie's death and never forgave her, even though she was supposedly scamming people to help her autistic daughter Lily. Because of her illegal activities, Laurel was a controversial character, and it did seem odd that she basically ended up taking Natalie's place after she had scammed her. But Janet later ended up taking Laurel's place and that didn't seem right either!

Good idea. AMC could also have done that a year earlier when Natalie was in the house that exploded (when KC left). Or send her out of town to recuperate indefinitely. Instead, AMC stupidly sealed Natalie's fate by making her brain dead after the 1993 car accident. But the writers changed Natalie into a clueless weakling after KC left, and her death was sad only because it meant KC could never come back to the role unless she played an angel.
Sadly, Natalie, Trevor, & Laurel didn't come to good ends.

Though Melody Anderson (Natalie #02) never was as good as Kate Collins (Nat #01 & #03), I wish that the characters body was lost so KC could have returned alive at some point.
