This is just NUTS. Watch how the temps of my 2009 mac pro skyrocket with no CPU activity... Just playing a MP3!! The temp hit 58(c) just after stopping video.

  • Strange....this doesn't happen on my 2009 Nehalem MacPro. I tried songbird, VLC, Vox app, and Itunes. Temp will slightly increase if I playback audio + video together. But not like this poor fella is seeing.

  • @GrymWraith this issue was corrected with an update last year.... Some piece of code probably got stuck in a loop and went nuts eating CPU cycles.. thus causing the heat. Luckily, it's no longer an issue :)

  • Weird that your CPU still shows no usage and stuck at 100%idle. Something is not being reported right.

  • it does not get that hot on my macbook pro with the i7 when i render a picture in photoshop the cpu goes 98 decrease Celsius and the fans spin at 6000rpm

  • @MrSonyVegas it is called "istat pro" it is a widget for mac dashboard

  • how do you get that cpu window up

  • are u running the visualizer on itunes????

  • take a look at the power usage. the usage jumps up to 15x idle usage. plus i would love to see a video of you doing something that uses 100% of all cores. I want to see the temps the mac pro gets to.
