Railfanning 6/27/09-MI-21, Amtrak Shops, and a Doodlebug

6/27/09-As I was headed to Delaware this afternoon, I saw the crossing was going off. Thinking it was a crossing malfunction (common for that certain intersection), I didn't say anything, until I saw the next crossing lit as well. Then I told my dad to chase it. We made it just in time! To make things better, it was NS 5278 on the lead, with CSX 2812 trailing, which still has its RS3L. I like 2812, and it was great to see it again, considering that I hadn't seen it since late December. The engineer gave me a wave and a head nod, but 5278's window was closed, so you can't see it. Now, to the Amtrak Bear, DE Car repair shops. I couldn't get to the spot where the locomotives were lined up, so I had to take it from a distance, zooming in. Man, you should see the track arrangement behind this place. It has two interlocking sections! Too bad the freights don't run down there on the weekends. Lastly, as I awaited to see a nice passenger train at W&W, with 104 or "the ugly duckling" on the lead, with a steam locomotive trailing, what comes around the curve but the ex-PRR "doodlebug". Five blasts from him, and waves from various passengers.

I'm assuming that local was Conrail shared assets. Where was that? I noticed there were catenary poles above the line.

The only time they have the gates opened at the shops are on weekdays because trains roll in and out once a day. On weekends they are closed.
