For those hunters who have never hunted Whitetail on a High Fence preserve, Dont knock it till you try it. I have taken over 200 free range Whitetail in my hunting lifetime and this hunt was as challenging as any I have ever taken.
The only REAL difference between free range and high fence hunting is all in the mind of the hunter and how she or he perceives the hunt. And that you know that the big one is there somewhere and can walk in on you at any given moment. If a hunting preserve is managed properly, hunters can expect the hunt of a lifetime. Hunting preserves offer a lot of hunters the opportunity to hunt a min number of days with the highest success rate of any other hunt. Times are changing and todays modern hunter does not have time to take 2 or 3 weeks to go on a hunting trip and spend the much needed time to take a free range trophy. I dare say that most deer hunters sometime in their life have hunted on a military installation or other gov property. Like it or not, these are high fence hunts just the same. I have hunted on these type properties and deer are limited on where they can go because of a HIGH FENCE... Any way, just some food for thought.
If you were not in a high fence area all that noise you were making would have scared off a normal deer. That is exactly why people hunt high fence. You can drink, smoke and make all the noise you want and the deer don't care. Not real hunting! (unless you are hunting a high fence that is thousands of acres) otherwise NOT REAL HUNTING!!!
