    And the difficulty. The Ligeti is really difficult mentally to play.

    Yes, what you have said is very true! I think it's because of all of the ascending and descending scales, the dissonance and the pandiatonicism.

    However, one thing that you don't get here that you do get in György Sándor Ligeti's "Devil's Staircase Etude" are the fffffff dynamic markings!
