Coles and Atkins were the quintessential "Class Act," setting the standard for elegance in the world of tap.

Their most outstanding number was their "Slow Soft Shoe." What set their dance apart was the seemingly perilous slowness of it. Each step was executed in graceful symmetry that was absolutely breathtaking.

Never before had such precision and style been brought to this tempo of soft shoe. The Coles & Atkins "Slow Soft Shoe" became a favorite world-wide.

Now you can learn this dance - taught by tap master Sam Weber.

  • Can any one tell me where to find this version of the music? I just listened to sample of 300 different versions of taking a chance on love on amazon!

  • yes... email me directly...

  • Could you suggest a movie in which they appear?

  • They were not in any feature films of which I am aware. Their career was mostly on Broadway, niteclubs, and touring with big bands. A lot of acts (such as Coles & Atkins) are not known to the new generation because there is not film documentation. Sad. We can only read about their greatness and look at photographs and then let our imagination fill in.

  • Why were these great dancers never more popular? They out step the Condos brothers who were very popular in the movies.

  • Hello there,

Actually Coles and Atkins were quite famous, popular, and very busy during their career. Interestingly, I wouldn't compare them with the Condos Brothers, sort of apples and oranges, very different styles (like trying to compare Astaire with Kelly, as people often attempt).

Glad you enjoyed these beautiful dancers!

  • I saw Honi Coles live in "My One and Only" in Cleveland back in the 1980s. What style & grace.

  • Thank you so much for remembering my grandfather

Mr. Charles Atkinson!!! God Bless You!!!

  • Well at age 75, I can hardly be considered new generation however, I do regret never seeing them other than the brief clips on YouTube.
