Priesthood to be founded on the values of Jesus

Not to judge, but to save: This is the characteristic of those who follow Christ. Capuchin Father Raniero Cantalamessa, Preacher to the Papal Household, noted this in this year's first Advent sermon. The three meditations on Advent were based on the nature and duties of the priesthood, departing from the writings of St. Paul, as part of the Year for Priests currently in progress. Father Cantalamessa noted that empathy, and a sense of solidarity and compassion towards others, are characteristic features of the priestly life. Provided, however, that they have very clear priorities, the core values which are drawn directly from the Gospel and draw their inspiration from the work of Christ.
